Who should apply
Comms and marketing people who want a bigger say
The Executive Committee sits at the centre of how we design and deliver LGcomms’ annual programme and our future offer. Every year we invite new members to join and get involved, representing their authority or organisation and making sure their voice and opinions are heard. This call is for people who aren’t currently on the Committee.
- Working in local public sector comms: Any communications, marketing, engagement or PR role within a UK local authority. You don’t have to be a senior communications leader; we welcome applications from all professional backgrounds.
- Ready to give some time: Committee members contribute to LGcomms activities alongside their day job, meetings, projects and events throughout the year.
- Bringing a different perspective: We’re looking for people who can bring fresh and diverse ideas to the table, with the time and energy to dedicate to the programme.
- Wanting to enhance your CV: Evidence of commitment to supporting your sector and going over and beyond the day job can help your career progression, if you’re willing to put the hours in.
Our asks of you
What committee membership involves
Committee members sign up to contribute to the running of LGcomms and our mission. Specifically, that means:
- Attending Executive Committee meetings: At least three a year, including the AGM, which is held in person.
- Playing an active role in the LGcomms programme: Helping increase the diversity and equality of our profession, organising and contributing to webinars and seminars, and taking part in the Future Leaders programme.
- Supporting our flagship event: Assisting with the delivery of the annual LGcomms Academy two day conference.
- Contributing to our content: Producing or contributing to at least one blog a year for publication on LGcomms channels.
- Maintaining our partnerships: Helping maintain positive relationships with LGcomms commercial partners.
- Supporting or leading new initiatives: Feel empowered to make your ideas a reality.
As part of the application process, you’ll also need to complete a short statement of commitment.
How to apply
Your application, in three parts
Applications are made through a short online form. There’s no set format, just cover these three things clearly.
- Who you are: A short introduction, your name, your council or organisation, and your current comms role.
- Why you want to join: This is the part we care about most. Tell us what’s pulling you towards the Committee and what you’d hope to bring to it.
- How you’ll play an active role: Committee membership takes real commitment. Let us know how you plan to fit it in alongside your day-to-day work.
What happens next
From application to the AGM
- Submit by Wednesday 16 September Get your application in before the deadline, late submissions can’t be considered.
- Applications go to the current Committee Every submission is circulated to the existing Executive Committee for consideration ahead of the AGM.
- The Committee votes at the AGM New members are decided by a vote of the Committee at this year’s Annual General Meeting.
- You join the meeting If you’re voted in, you’re welcome to join the Committee meeting straight away.
