How we talk about homes in our communities matters. And as we move into an era of more investment in new social homes, it’s more important than ever that we get our communications spot-on.
In this session you’ll hear from Natalie Tate, project lead for Talking about Homes at the JRF, on how we can frame our communications so that we boost community support for building homes.
Most people are concerned about the shortage of decent and affordable homes and support the broad idea that we need to build more homes. Yet we often face opposition when making the case directly to communities for homes to be built in their own locality.
This session will provide evidence-led recommendations that will provide you with the expertise to:
· Establish common ground and give people a reason to care
· Show why new homes are needed by winning hearts and minds
· Share a vision of the benefits of genuinely affordable homes and strong communities
Talking about Homes is aiming to change the narrative on housing, so that we tell better stories about decent and affordable homes, and in turn, the public gets behind the long-term solutions to our housing crisis. It is funded by the Nationwide Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and supported by FrameWorks UK.
Natalie’s workshop will be followed by a discussion on the current housing challenges and opportunities for us as communicators, facilitated by Bobbie Hough of Hough Bellis Communications.
The session will end with a networking lunch.
