Future Comms: Shaping the Next Generation of Communications Teams

LG Comms is launching Future Comms, a new flagship training programme designed to equip today’s communications teams for tomorrow’s challenges.

What is Future Comms?

· A practical, evidence-based training offer built around what our members say they need most and aligned to feedback from the regional networks.

· A mix of in-person learning, online collaboration, and shared resources to deliver real-world impact, supported by expert practitioner speakers drawn from LGComms members and partner organisations.

· Accredited learning: This will be an iterative programme, but our ambition is that teams who complete a core set of training will receive accreditation, in recognition of their commitment to learning

Programme Highlights

· First cohort: Launching early in the New Year, with further cohorts planned for Spring and Summer 2026.

· Accessible for all: We will ensure that places are available for all LG Comms members, with some places prioritised for teams who have recently participated in an LGA Healthcheck or Peer Review, to support teams as they implement peer recommendations.

· Flexible Options: Including an online-only programme by the end of 2026 for remote or budget-constrained authorities.

Key initial themes

· Based on member feedback, initial focus areas may include: Content Strategy, Stakeholder Engagement, Digital & AI, as well as Community Cohesion.

· Members of the first cohort will have real opportunities to shape the future of the programme.

How it will work?

· Deep-Dive Cohorts: An initial 3–6 month themed programme.

· Regional Kick-Off: Half-day, in-person sessions linked to existing regional networks.

· Online future comms teams: Solve real-world challenges through a small peer community of fellow learners, with expert input and the opportunity to build new networks that can support and learn from one another, outside of organisational boundaries.

· Always-On Resources: Access best practice case studies and shared materials anytime.

Future Comms will complement the existing flagship offers like Future Leaders and Zero to Hero programmes, offering deeper, practical skills to future-proof your team.

When will this start?

We will launch the initial cohort in early 2026. Watch this space for more information!
