Covid communications webinars

As we progress along the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown. communications will continue to play a crucial part in ensuring that councils can support the vaccine roll out and effectively control local outbreaks and variants of concern.

Together with the Local Government Association (LGA), we are organising a series of webinars on the topic to share lessons learned and explore common challenges together.

Previous webinars

Communicating easing of restrictions (Thursday 17 June, 10.30am – 12.00pm)

As we continue through the third stage of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, councils are planning for what comes next. In the months to come, communications and engagement will be key to ensuring that residents stay alert to the ongoing risks of the virus and that any ongoing or additional restrictions are adhered to.

In this webinar, funded by Government, we will hear from councils who have been planning for the future and working on new ways to successfully communicate with residents.

Engaging with young people (20 May 2021)

With over half the population having received their first vaccine, the NHS is now working through the younger age cohorts. Insight has shown that those in the youngest age cohort, from 18 to 29, are more likely than other ages to be hesitant about choosing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In this Government funded webinar we explored how council communications teams can work to increase vaccine uptake amongst our younger residents. We heard from Luton Borough Council about the work they are doing with young people, as well as the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), amongst others.

The presentations for this event are available from the LGA website.

Surge testing and local outbreaks (28 April 2021)

This weinar looked at the lessons learned from previous local outbreaks of COVID-19 and experience of rapidly deploying surge testing. Surrey County Council and Manchester City Council shared their approaches and learnings, alongside colleagues in central government.

Tackling hesitancy and misinformation (11 March 2021)

As the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine programme expands beyond the top four priority groups, effective communications and engagement will be integral to its success.
