Academy 2020 – be part of it!

This year’s LGcomms academy is going online with a three day event from Tuesday 24 November to Thursday 26 November. Themed Science, Strategy and Standards, this year’s academy will cover the big issues of the year and provide practical training for communications professionals at all career levels.

Academy will offer a mix of learning, expert speakers, networking and interactive sessions. Diversity and inclusion will continue to be high on the agenda, as #BlackLivesMatter and the disproportionate impact of Covid show this to be more important than ever.

There is no avoiding that this year has been dominated by Covid. We will be delving into how the pandemic has been communicated across the UK and what happens next as we live alongside the virus.

We’re also developing a wide range of sessions designed for smaller teams working with minimal resource. We’re keen to invite representatives from our membership with experience of running a full communications service with a small team to be part of the panels sharing experiences and showcasing successes.

Potential topics for the local focused sessions include zero budget campaigns, dealing with residents’ hot topics (parking, litter, potholes, etc) and developing practical basic skills for the all round communications professional. If you’d like to find out more about what’s involved, please email info@lgcomms.org.uk and one of the team will be in touch.

The event will run in collaboration with GCS, giving networking opportunities across local and national communicators.

The full programme will be released in the autumn along with registration details.

For now please save the date: Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 November.
