LGcomms and CAN announce new strategic partnership

Public sector communications membership body LGcomms and advertising specialists CAN are delighted to announce a new strategic partnership to further develop the sector.

The partnership will seek to develop a new mindset in public sector communications teams, to generate income, demonstrate impact and position communications as an indispensable service for councils and other public bodies.

LGcomms is progressing its mission to drive continual improvement in public sector communications, developing a series of learning workshops, networking opportunities, regional events and sharing best practice across the country.

Moving this work to the next stage, and to meet the current needs of public sector comms teams, CAN and LGcomms’ new partnership is looking to develop an understanding of how to create an income stream, invest in smarter campaigns and leverage service savings through outcomes – to prove how effective comms can be on the ground.

In April, CAN will be launching a pilot project with LGComms to find out members’ attitudes to income generation, and create a way of sharing best practice and benchmarking.

Andy Allsopp, Chair of LGcomms said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside CAN and draw on their expertise to help make sure public sector communications team remain ahead of the game. We’re committed to that continual improvement across the sector and our commercial partners are essential in helping our members be the best they can be.

“There has never been a more opportune time to focus on how comms teams can be income generators for their organisation, and I’m certain that this new partnership will prompt plenty of interest in how to do it effectively.”

John-Paul Danon, Sales Director at CAN, said: “We really appreciate LGcomms’ invitation to work with them over the next year as partners. LGcomms offers support in so many ways to local government communicators so they can be the best at what they do – this is something we care about and align ourselves with.

“With the support of LGcomms, we hope to strengthen our position as a “cost net negative” agency. That is, the money we make for you is more than the money we spend for you.”

LGcomms is a national body made up of an association of organisations working together to raise the standard of communications in the public sector.

Over the next year CAN will reach a milestone: it will have worked exclusively for local government and its partners for a decade.
